Jassi Sidhu in Toronto (Free Concert)
Look into Jassi Sidhu’s eyes.
You know what he is trying to tell you? No, not that (get your mind out of the gutter)
He’s telling you he just enjoyed a night out in Toronto, where he watched the NKOTBSB concert at the Air Canada Centre, and then met Donnie Wahlberg. No really, he did.
You know what else those eyes are trying to tell you?
(No seriously, get your mind out the gutter!)
He’s trying to tell you that the IIFA madness is getting ready to kick off, and with that in mind, there will be some Bhangra performances occurring over the next few weeks.
First off, Jassi Sidhu will be at Dundas Square on the evening of this Saturday, June 11 performing a free concert.
There will be more performances by other recording acts coming to town, but IIFA are not making it easy to narrow down the exact times the shows are happening.
I’ll try and stay on top of things….

RBC desiFest in Toronto on May 29, 2010
The warmer weather is upon us (at least it should be) and with that, comes the kick off to this years music festivals.
The first one, is the RBC desiFest, which hosts a festival in four cities across Canada.
May 29, will see the first one take place in Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square, providing 12 hours of free music performances.
There is a wide range of genres performing, but you lot should be interested in seeing Black Mahal, The Bilz & Kashif, Roach Killa, Blitzkrieg, Shahid Ali Khan, Navin Kundra and En Karma perform.

Free Download – DJ KSR “Forever” Mixtape
I know I’ve been away from the blog a bit, but I think this will more than make up for it. BIG time!
Released last month, DJ KSR’s Forever Mixtape is by far the best bhangra mixtape I have heard. It covers the key genres, and the mixing creativity is sublime. Anyone that comes up with mixing LMFAO’s “Shots” with DJ Vix’ “Ah Chak Bottal” followed by Kaka’s “Daru Peeke” is Aces in my books.
Artists covered range from the following:
Imran Khan, Diljit, Sarbjit Cheema, Malkit, JK, Heera, Dark MC, Kaka, Miss Pooja, House of Pain, Drake, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Jay-Z and some Bollywood tunes I’m not that aware of for obvious reasons. (Trust me this list is the tip of the iceberg.)

My favourite part (about 11 minutes in) is this Preet Mani track “Akh Mastani.” The dude is from the Toronto area, and I really could use some more info on him as well.

Juggy D Live in Toronto March 4, 2010
I like to think I have great timing. With the previous post of the Free Aman Sandhu Download, the uni crowd crowd in Toronto will be able to check him out live on stage, as well as Juggy D on Thursday, March 4.

Nav Sarao “Mera Punjab” Promo
After posting nearly 18 months ago about Nav Sarao’s return to the scene, the wait is now almost over (for real this time.)
I caught up with Nav last night about the long delay, and he said the old promo is pretty much bunk.
The delay over the album had not only been partly due to figuring out distribution, but he also made the switch to a Mac. He said with the switch, (Cubase to Logic) the quality of the production is much sharper. He noted that he tweaked things that may not be noticed by everyone, but he gave examples of how the the kick drums now have a better feel to them, as well as working on minor details such as panning the dhol.
If you listen to the old promo compared to the new one below, you can definitely tell the difference.
As previously reported, the album will no longer be titled “The Desi Retrospect, but instead, “Mera Punjab,” and the only thing holding back the release now, is the filming of the first video, which I can tell you will be the song featuring Sonia Bajwa, “Aja Mere Kohl.”
Nav went on further to say, that he has been away far too long, and once this album is released, you can expect to see more releases from him every six months.
Releasing on the Planet Recordz label, the album will feature the vocals of Shaukat Ali, Manjit Pappu, Barkat Sidhu, MC JD, Laddi Aujla, Sonia Bajwa, Tej Gill, Gita Sharma and Amrita Deepak.
