Pal D “Diamond in the Rough” Medley Video & Promo
Pal D has had some wicked tunes in the past (“Boliyan” on Danger 2 is a classic.) And now after some time off, Pal has come back with a new album.
“Diamond in the Rough” is a ten track album with vocals provided by the likes of Bakshi Billa, Lembher Hussainpuri, Surinder Shinda, as well as Pal D making his own vocal debut on four tracks.
Here’s the first (and probably only) video featuring four of the tracks.
Four tracks in a video is a bit much don’t ya think? And the video is rather low budget (those dancers were ummm not good,) but I’m definitely vibing to the Bakshi Billa and Lembher tracks.
Here’s a fifth track, for which there probably wasn’t enough room to put in the video (I keed, I keed!)
Sandeep Soomal & Pal D – Oh Kudi Sohni Lagdhi
The album is set to release on May 29, and you can purchase it from the VIP Records Digital Site.
Old School Sunday – Skillz Inc. feat. Surinder Shinda “Balbero Bhabi/Jeona Mohr”
This weeks Old School Sunday brings “The Legendary” Surinder Shinda in with some UK flair.
In 1997, Skillz Inc. managed to produce an entire album for the man, and this track is one I have always had on repeat.
I picked this cassette up mainly because of Surinder Shinda and Skillz Inc., but also because of the cover. Album cover design seems to be a lost art these days, where most artists just like to stick their own picture on the cover, or treat it as an afterthought altogether. This one seems a bit plain, but the darkness of it makes it rather appealing.
The beat is upbeat and insane, and when you reach the three minute mark in the track, you realise how insane it is. The Cypress Hill sample “How I Could Just Kill A Man” kicks in with the accompaniment of Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up.” It makes you wanna turn the volume up and do some damage.
Old School Sunday – Amit Rai “England”
This tune was in my CD player for a year. It’s funny because I took it from Canada and was still bumping it in the UK when i was there in ’02.
The early 2000′s saw an uptick in the number of samples being used unabashedly. “England” is from the 2001 debut album “Going Solo” by Amit Rai. The superb vocals were provided by Surinder Shinda, and in case you’re wondering, the sample is “No More” by Ruff Endz.
As for the video, I’ll say it had a creative idea, even though it had a cheap feel to it.
I have no clue what has happened to Amit Rai, he released two albums and left the face of the earth. I’m not exactly saying I miss him but, it would still be nice to know where he’s at.
DJs Inc. “Nachle Soniye/Na Roko” Video
Aman and Ajay Sahota are the 2 brothers that comprise the duo of DJs Inc. Their debut album is set to release on September 26th titled “A New Age.” The album features the likes of Surinder Shinda, Kaka, Lehmber and more. They also specialize in UK’s own Grime music, and will be including a track in their album.
I’m digging the tunes in their first Punjabi video, which features the two tracks “Nachle Soniye” and “Na Roko.”
Old School Sunday – “Tenu Bulondee”
I never caught on with the “Das Ja” hype, so this weeks Old School Sunday joint is my favourite DJ Sanj track.
The year was 2002, and the album was the first in the series of “America’s Most Wanted.”
The production was simple yet effective. A strong Surinder Shinda vocal coupled with a Michael Jackson sample as well as Malkit’s “Jugni” sample led to a Sanj club banger.
