Old School Sunday – Bally Jagpal “Viah Karvake Ve”

Dark & Dangerous Cover

I remember exactly were I first heard this song. It was 1999, and we were at a house party in Brampton (of all places.) Wait, let me rephrase that, it was outside the party. The music wasn’t bumping inside the house, as it was more of a dinner party for like a 100 people.

So us youngster’s were chilling outside, you know, up to our usual no good. When one of the elder youngsters who had a Jeep at the time pulled up to the front of the house with this song blaring. We quickly went up to him, and made him replay it.

I remember the excitement he showed while starting the song again. The song started as it does with a chilled out beat, Jimmy all along saying “wait for it…wait for it…”

“Wait for what?”

“The dhol to kick in”

Bally Jagpal feat. Amar Arshi/Shazia Manzoor “Viah Karvake Ve”

Sure enough, as Amar Arshi enters the song at the 1:03 mark, the dhol started and did it. That’s all it took. I was entranced. I got the album the following day, and continued to rinse what we now know as one of the biggest selling albums in UK Bhangra, “Dark and Dangerous.”

The song is originally an Amarjot and Chamkila track, and it was redone by one of the hottest combos back then consisting of Amar Arshi and Shazia Manzoor. (Thanks for the correction Nimrit.)Sudesh Kumari – who I still rate higher than Miss Pooja (sorry fellas.)

The entire album – comprised of six tracks – is very impressive, as it contained an array of beats and samples. This was also the first time we heard “Aaja Sohneya” by Shazia Manzoor, before we got “Simran’s Mix” on “Untruly Yours.”

If you don’t have this album in your collection. I suggest you get it, because you’re missing out badly.

Purchase Dark and Dangerous here

As a special bonus, I came across the lyrics to the track online.

Ki Zor Gareeba Da Maari Chidakh Sohneya Ud Gayi
Sadi Kakaan Di Kulli Tere Hath Vadeya Karan Naal Jurgayi
Aari Firgayi Seeneh Te Meh Gal Hasdeya Hasdeya Kai
Sonhneya Viah Karvake Ve Sanu Milda Gilda Rai
Hai Viah Karvake Ve Sanu Milda Gilda Rai

Hai Do Dil Taan Jurgayi Ni Saur Ke Nahi Miliya Takdeera
Lakhan Ranjhe Turgayi Ni Ho Etheh Rehn Tara Diyan Heera
Hai Sun Bakshan Har Ik Ni Sau Teri Tehgayi Deri
Hai Jad Pehli Lavun Parri Ta Hai Paub Nikal Gayi Meri
Hai Jad Pehli Lavun Parri Ta Hai Paub Nikal Gayi Meri

Tere Aasa De Tand Tutgayi Reejah Di Udgayi Taani Ve
Mere Honkeh Kohkoh Lameh Ne Behdarda Sunni Kahani Ve
Sukh Vaseh Sohneya Ve Kiteh Sada Vi Dukh Sunlayi
Hai Viah Karvake Ve Sanu Milda Gilda Rai
Sohneya Viah Karvake Ve, Ve Sanu Milda Gilda Rai

Ho Chit Barbar Aunda Ni Hai Tu Raundi Chalna Hoveh, Raundi Chalna Hoveh

Aah Lagja Seeneh Ni Hai Tu Aaveh Yaad Batheri

Hai Jad Pehli Lavun Parri Ta Hai Paub Nikal Gayi Meri

Hai Viah Karvake Ve Sanu Milda Gilda Rai
Sohneya Viah Karvake Ve, Ve Sanu Milda Gilda Rai
Hai Jad Pehli Lavun Parri Hai Paub Nikal Gayi Meri
Hai Jad Pehli Lavun Parri Ta Hai Paub Nikal Gayi Meri

Twin Beats – “Dil Vich Tareya” & “Nath Digpaye” Video

Twin Beats Cover

I posted about Twin Beats last month when I dropped their new Kaka tune as well as a free download featuring the legend Kuldeep Manak.

Earlier this week, they dropped their debut video featuring the tracks “Dil Vich Tareya” and “Nath Digpaye.”

I’m digging the tunes in the video. It’s like each song has a different percussion led beat, and going by the promos, the whole album sounds very promising.

“Kach Di Glassi” – Bakshi Billa

“Tere Nain Nashiley” – Bikram Singh

“Twins Tappe” – Jaswinder Daghamia

Now those are some good vocalists, but the entire lineup is pretty crazy. Check the track listing:

01 – Dil Vich Tareya (Kaka Bhaniawala)
02 – Nath Digpaye (Sudesh Kumari & Jelly Manjitpuri)
03 – Kach Di Glassi (Bakshi Billa)
04 – Tere Nain Nashiley (Bikram Singh)
05 – Nanke V Dhadke (Rani Randeep)
06 – Kar Gayian Sauda (Sabar Koti)
07 – Twins Tappe (Jaswinder Daghamia)
08 – Mitran Naal Gidhe Vich (Anil)
09 – Challa Ishq De Rang (Romesh Chohan)
10 – Marda Lalkara (Bakshi Billa)

I haven’t heard Romesh Chohan in a minute, so I’m definitely looking forward to his track.

The album will be dropping very soon, so keep your eye on VIP Records Digital Downloads page to cop the album.

Free Download – Twin Beats “Manak Drops the Pressure”

Twin Beats

Twin Beats is preparing to release their debut album “The Sounds of Punjab,” and going by the following tracks, it sounds like there is something to look forward to in what seems like a pretty dull moment in the industry.

The first official single off the album will be “Dil Vich Tareya” sung by the late Kaka Bhaniawala. The intro beat is pretty sweet and it carries over into the rest of the song. I totally get this Surjit Bindrakhia vibe from the tune.

“Dil Vich Tareya”

Also, a new track was recently added to the BBC Asian Network playlist by Twin Beats featuring Jelly Manjitpuri and Sudesh Kumari, going by the title of “Nath Digpaye”. It’s another solid BIG tune by the duo.

No official release date is confirmed, but vocalists featured on the album will be Sudesh Kumari, Jelly Manjitpuri, Sabar Koti, Rani Randeep, Bikram Singh, The Late Kaka Bhaniawala, Bakshi Billa, Romesh Chohan and Jaswinder Daghamia.

For more info on Twin Beats, hit them up on their MySpace Page, or their Facebook Group.

“Manak Drops the Pressure”

Here’s a free download provided by Twin Beats. I have been listening to this for awhile now, and still haven’t grown tired of it. If you like Kuldip Manak and House music, this tune is for you. The Manak tune is “Ghariya Milan Deh,” while the House sample is taken from a 2004 track called “Drop the Pressure,” by Mylo. So you can understand how the title of the song came about.
