Laddi Aujla “Mundrah” Video
Canadian talent Laddi Aujla released his debut album last week, and here is the first video to stem from it.
“Mundrah” is your typical dance floor number. It has a generic feel, but the music is backed by the RDB camp.
The discovery of Laddi, came about as Manj of RDB was attending a wedding that Laddi was performing at here in Toronto. Impressed with his vocal ability, Manj snapped him up and signed him to their label “Three Records.”
(Big up all the Aujla’s doing their thing in the music industry)
Old School Sunday – RDB featuring Metz and Trix “Aja Mahi”
Going back to 2002, this has got to be one of the biggest tracks of that year.
RDB were in full swing of putting out album after album, hit after hit. They had a knack for using some of the most popular samples of that time, and morphing it into their own eastern influenced banger. This track was no different, as it featured the “Sweet Like Chocolate” sample by Shanks & Bigfoot.
The song also featured the Metz and Trix duo, and at that point, I liked them a lot – I know it’s something I shouldn’t publicly admit now but, these dudes did justice to the track, with their own flavour and lyrics that made some sense before they totally lost the plot.
I had never seen the video up until a few weeks ago, and yeah it is more than a bit laughable. One of the comments on YouTube ask if this video was made with a VHS camera.
Originally released on the album “Danger 2,” RDB later had a falling out with Metz and Trix, and decided to reproduce this track without their aide, and I must say, it didn’t sound at the same level as this original.
Old School Sunday – RDB feat. Metz & Trix “Hai Margay”
My entire life is defined by music. Specific tracks are associated with memories in my life, and when listening to said tracks, they trigger off the specific memory without fail. In fact, that’s how I can quickly catalogue some tracks and rhyme off what year they were released (Peculiar I know.)
So on the date that I moved to this here fine country many years ago, I’ve selected a track that is most famous for my trip back to the surrogate motherland in the Summer of 2002.
I remember purchasing two CDs on that trip, “Urban Flavas Volume 1″ and Tigerstyle’s “Virsa.” In fact I shelled out £10 each for them! And while I love Tigerstyle, it was the Urban Flavas CD that got the most airplay. In my mind, that album has to be one of the most complete albums from start to finish. Traditionalists may disagree, but it’s not like the Untouchables camp claimed it was anything but urban…look at the title!
Even though the “Dil Karda” video was on continuous play on ZeeTV during my stay, it was “Hai Margay” that captivated me. To this day, it’s a track I listen to at home, in the car and in the gym. What can I say? Jungle is Massive! I’ve made my mum sit through this song in the car, and while she never complained about “Hai Margay,” she did have to gripe about “Dekh Jawani,” when she questioned “Why is the singer singing so fast?”
In recent years both RDB, Metz and Trix have fallen off, but this Hai Margay is probably one of my favourite tracks of theirs before they all went their separate ways.
With vocals provided by KS Makhan, enjoy if you will “Hai Margay”

Download Baba Kahn, Sunny Brown, Lomaticc “Bombay Bo” and Culture Shock 2 Tour at Circa Niteclub
Baba Kahn, Sunny Brown and Lomaticc are back. After the massively huge track “Tonight” last year, the crew are trying to do things even bigger.
Culture Shock 2 is set for release, and the first single is up for download.
Download here..
It’s not exactly at the same level of “Tonight,” but they’re on the right track, of thinking what the club goers in North America are looking for.
The inclusion of ring tones in the download pack, is a very good idea as well.
Culture Shock 2 Release Party at Circa (Toronto) June 30, 2009
Baba Kahn is also promoting the album in a big way, with a concert happening in one of Toronto’s biggest clubs (Circa,) along with an impressive lineup to boot.
Along with the Culture Shock Crew of Baba Kahn, Sunny Brown and Lomaticc, RDB, Manak-E, as well as H-Dhami will be performing.
To top things off, the video for Bombay Bo will be shot that night at the club.

Download RDB “Exclusives”
If you haven’t already got your hands on this, now is your chance.
Featuring seven tracks from the RDB crew, they feature beats from some of the top songs in the Hip-Hop and R&B charts from the past few years.
It’s not really my cup of tea, as it sounds like everything was quickly slapped together (proof here.) But there may be something you guys will dig.
(I hope for their next album, RDB go back to their roots in production and sound.)
Download here.

On top of that, RDB will be giving away 2000 CDs of their brand new remix album titled “RDB Exclusives.”
Check out the video of one of the tracks RDB “produced” that will be included on the CD.
Excuse me while I go off on a tangent here. Kuly says the track took him 20-25 minutes to complete. Well hell! If I had an instrumental from a track that peaked at #5 on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart, I think I could say the same as well. In fact I’ll go a step further, and say RDB deserves next to no credit for this track. OK, they put the vocalists together, and Manj (from RDB) is singing on it as well. But please don’t try and pass off someone else’s hard work as your own, while biggin up yourself.
Even though RDB will be giving this CD away for free, and eventually make it a free digital download for the masses, and it has a mixtape kind of feel to it (which everybody does these days.) Doesn’t this all catapult us back to the fine line between the “Producers,” and the “Downloaders?” If you’re going to rip off other people’s work and not give them any credit (compensation/royalties,) should Producers in the industry be jumping on the downloaders arses when they download their future work???

Old School Sunday – RDB “Balle Balle/Muqabula”
The last couple of Old School Sundays have been tracks from the nineties and eighties, so I thought I’d bring it back to the 2000′s with an RDB tune.
“Balle Balle” is one of my favourite Bhangarage tracks. Sung by Kuldeep Purewal, it was featured on the album “Sounds of the North” released in 2002. UK Bhangra was going through a creative sampling phase, and RDB were the masters of taking a popular beat, and making it their own in a tasteful way. “Balle Balle” used the Daniel Bedingfield “Gotta Get Thru This” sample. The second song in this video is “Muqabula” sung by Manak-E.
“Singh is Kinng” Video
They royally effed up this video.
Here was an opportunity to do something big.
I think I can name off the handful of times any turbaned fella has appeared in a Hip Hop video:
Cocoa Brovaz – Won on Won
Wu Tang Clan – Ice Cream
Notorious BIG – Mo Money Mo Problems
Artistically speaking, you can say that having a video featuring Snoop is a chance to make a mark. Chance squandered.
If comedy was their intent, they failed.
Barring the actual concept of the video, even the quality is lacking. It’s rumoured that Snoop dug into his pockets and forked over a million dollars for the video. If that’s what you can get for a million bucks, then obviously I need to get myself into the video making business.
Where didn’t they fail? Snoop Dogg can theoretically add a billion people to his fan base. RDB can say they were the pioneers of linking up with someone as big as Snoop, and probably have opened up some new doors for themselves. Even the Producers of the movie have generated enough hype to possibly make this the largest grossing movie ever in Bollywood.
As a fan of both Snoop and RDB, I’d expect a little something-something as well.
They failed.
