Yo Yo Honey Singh “Dope Shope”
By now, you must all have a favourite Yo Yo Honey Singh produced track. From as recent as Lakk 28, Jaan Mangdi, Chaska, to as far back as his initial work with Diljit. It was his hard hitting beats, that you really didnt expect to hear from someone that (even though he is from the UK) produces all his tracks in India.
That being said, I saw the lineup he had on his own debut album, and I was for once genuinely excited to see how he would manage to rip my speakers.
Going by the above video though, and checking out the album “International Villager” which was released today, I can honestly say that there really aren’t that many “Dope Shope” tracks on the album. I found two that I can vibe with (Malkit’s “Beautiful” and “Meet Malkit’s “Garaari”). But for how long I can vibe with them is anyone’s guess.
However, you can preview, form an opinion for yourself, and buy the album from iTunes.

Free Download – DJ KSR “Forever” Mixtape
I know I’ve been away from the blog a bit, but I think this will more than make up for it. BIG time!
Released last month, DJ KSR’s Forever Mixtape is by far the best bhangra mixtape I have heard. It covers the key genres, and the mixing creativity is sublime. Anyone that comes up with mixing LMFAO’s “Shots” with DJ Vix’ “Ah Chak Bottal” followed by Kaka’s “Daru Peeke” is Aces in my books.
Artists covered range from the following:
Imran Khan, Diljit, Sarbjit Cheema, Malkit, JK, Heera, Dark MC, Kaka, Miss Pooja, House of Pain, Drake, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Jay-Z and some Bollywood tunes I’m not that aware of for obvious reasons. (Trust me this list is the tip of the iceberg.)
Download here.
My favourite part (about 11 minutes in) is this Preet Mani track “Akh Mastani.” The dude is from the Toronto area, and I really could use some more info on him as well.
DJ KSR has been on the scene for 7 years, and he will be releasing his first official album this summer. For more info on him, check out his facebook page.
P.S. You’re welcome.
Old School Sunday – “Taj Mahal’s Megamix” & “Dhol Crawlers”
This weeks Old School Sunday keeps it homegrown.
Representing Gerrard India Bazaar in the city of Toronto, DJ Taj Mahal (who owns Taj Mahal Audio Centre) put together this album in 1993.
The first track, an eight minute megamix, contains songs from a variety of UK bands and singers, blended with some of the best Hip Hop beats of that time.
Taj Mahal’s Megamix
I have to be honest, mostly because my sister is sitting right here (and it was indeed her cassette purchase.) I had a hard time digging music like this because of what I thought was a lack of creativity on the part of DJ’s back then in North America, who would release popular Bhangra tracks smashed with a popular Hip Hop beat. Maybe I’ve matured (unlikely) or there just isn’t anything good out there right now (more likely) that I can appreciate this track even more now.
All in all there were five tracks on the cassette, and since I’m digging the music on this next track as well, because it’s got two banging samples, let’s make this a double dose.

Jassi Sidhu “Ki Kehne” Video
This was the leading single from Jassi Sidhu’s album “The New Adventures of Jassi Sidhu.” Featuring Malkit Singh, I can say the song came to be rather good after a few listens. But the concept of the video I have seen before somewhere.
