Kulvinder Johal “Mundeh Panjabi” Press Release
Having broken records with the smash hit single ‘Johal Boliyan’; Vip Records are proud to present the debut album by folk vocalist Kulvinder Singh Johal titled ‘Mundeh Panjabi’.
The 10 track album has been produced by Kaos Productions & also features three singles by Tru Skool; the producer behind ‘Johal Boliyan’ which spent an incredible seven weeks at the top of the BBC Asian Network digital download chart.
With ‘Johal Boliyan’ already a firm fixture for dance floors across the UK, ‘Mundeh Panjabi’ promises to deliver further anthems, only adding to the already long list of hit songs by Kulvinder Singh Johal.
The single ‘Sun Baliyeh’ was given its exclusive first play on the distinguished Nihal show on BBC Radio 1, with ‘Mundeh Panjabi’ being premiered by Bobby Friction on the BBC Asian Network.
The album will be supported by another high quality video medley for the tracks ‘Mundeh Panjabi’ and ‘Sun Baliyeh’ which will be airing shortly.
With Johal Boliyan still riding high in the charts, ‘Mundeh Punjabi’ is set to become the essential sound track for the summer.
The 10 track album is out in all Asian music shops and iTunes on the 8th of July 2010.

Kulvinder Johal – “Johal Boliyan” Video
Now this is the business!
There isn’t much I can say to convince you to buy this song, other than to point you in the direction of the video.
Kulvinder Johal, who has been around since the early 80′s, is set for a monster solo album with the aide of Tru-Skool on production.
Granted it’s a remake of a Mohammed Sadiq and Ranjit Kaur track, I think this updated track is fresh for the times. Tru-Skool shows off his flair (and his best PMC impression to date) with the use of some solid sampling of James Brown.
The song debuted at number 1 on the Official Asian Download Chart. (That’s now 2 Bhangra tracks at number 1 in consecutive weeks (PBN last week))
This song is on continuous repeat for me.
Do yourself a favour and get the song from iTunes
Notorious Jatt “Khanda” Video
Where to begin?
I received the promo for this song two weeks ago, but I didn’t want to put it up until I had formulated an opinion. I thought if the video was released soon enough, it would clear up some questions.
After watching the video, I can see they tried their best to justify the lyrics of the song.
The track is typical Notorious Jatt hype music, but the lyrics still irk me. In no way am I a conservative shrew, but I just cannot get past the chorus.
“Asal Peshaan Panjabi Dhee Gal Paiya Khanda”
“You can recognise a true Panjabi as they have a Khanda around their neck”
Huh?
The line has caused quite a stir, as they’re bringing religion into what will inevitable be perceived as a club anthem.
Now I know there is a lot of people out there that do rock a Khanda on their chain, or in their rear view mirror, or are tatted up with one.
But look at this:
Not all Panjabis are Sikhs AND Not all Sikhs are Panjabis
See what I did right there? But that is my Western thought.
Talking to someone from the East, and they simply tell you, it doesn’t matter what you’re background is, there are all types of people living in Panjab that wear a Khanda around their neck, so I shouldn’t take the chorus so literally.
I can’t do it.
I think the wording is wrong, even within the context they are attempting to display in the video. They could have done some things in the video to clarify their position more, but instead they fudged it.
I haven’t heard Notorious Jatt or Nirmal Sidhu offer any justification to the lyrics yet, but stay tuned. This may get ugly.
The album “Still Livin’ It Up,” is set to contain a lineup of;
Kulvinder Johal, Preet Mahadipuria, Ranjit Mani, Pargat Khan, Kaka Bhaniawala and more.
The first single “Khanda” is set to release on iTunes on May 22.
After listening to the music of the track, I get the feeling like I’ve heard this beat before, and I think I have. Notorious has been producing for a couple of other singers (like Juz’D,) and I think the beats were similar on that album.
The label tried to make it a point to say that this is Notorious’ first solo album since three years ago. I guess they don’t want us to get confused, although it’s hard when everything sounds the same.
The Great Khali Entrance Music (By Panjabi MC)
A Bhangraw.com first. I’m talking about wrestling!
I haven’t watched wrestling since the days of Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake (Not something I wanted to admit. Why didn’t I say The Ultimate Warrior?) However, I was familiar with the fact that there is a Panjabi wrestler currently in the WWE.
The Great Khali aka Dalip Singh, with the aide of Panjabi MC, is bringing his culture to the WWE circuit with him.
“Land of Five Rivers” is sung by Kulvinder Johal and has got PMC bringing some entrance theme heat. P said he had big things in the pipeline, and this is definitely an accomplishment.
I’ve listened to the song a couple of times, and people have already said that the production is rather simple on the track. I’m digging the song and the production. It’s got the echoey acoustics going on because of where the song will be played, in arenas. The song title is also fantastic. Let people know about the Panjab.
Check out the video for his entrance. The song is on the “Voices – WWE: The Music Vol. 9″ album. Officially releasing today, it can be purchased at the WWE Store.
Edit – WWE took the first Video down. So here is a different one featuring the song.
