Old School Sunday – Madan Maddi “Nanaan Ghor Ghor”
Going back to 1996, this track sung by Madan Maddi was featured on Big Boom. It was also this album, that featured “Do Jugtan” by Jazzy B.
I want to say that’s a Lil Suzy sample, but I could be off with that one.
Old School Sunday – United Kulture “Disco Nu Chhad Ke”
This weeks Old School Sunday is from local T-Dot boys United Kulture.
United Kulture was a group comprised of Total Eclipse, N V us and 6 Pak.
The only cassette of theirs that I have (and the only one they have released as far as I know – correct me if I’m wrong) contains the Apna Sangeet track “Disco Nu Chhad Ke.” I really liked this track back in 1994. It has a cool intro, and a kicking bass line, and for awhile, I thought this group could do some great things for Bhangra in the city.
I must also add, the cover artwork is also very creative, and there is a line on the inlay that I enjoyed reading back in the day;
“The Punjabi Hardcore. The posers came and vanished but only the true Bhangramaniacs survived. This tape is dedicated to you!”
Old School Sunday – “Do Jugtan”
Taking you back to 1996, this weeks Old School Sunday joint is a lesser heard Jazzy B song.
It made it’s rounds in my High School as the different sounding Jazzy B song, that had a new but catchy type of beat accompanying it. The beat was known as Jungle and it was heavy in Europe.
Taking the classic General Levy “Incredible” vocal sample at the beginning of the song, I loved this song from the get go. It still is one of my favourite Jazzy B songs (Something I don’t have too many of.)
The song was on the album “Big Boom.” An album that featured remixes by Toronto’s own DJ Jiten and Earl Ferns. This particular track was produced by Earl Ferns and featured the MC stylings of 6-Pac.
