Free Download – DJ KSR “Forever” Mixtape
I know I’ve been away from the blog a bit, but I think this will more than make up for it. BIG time!
Released last month, DJ KSR’s Forever Mixtape is by far the best bhangra mixtape I have heard. It covers the key genres, and the mixing creativity is sublime. Anyone that comes up with mixing LMFAO’s “Shots” with DJ Vix’ “Ah Chak Bottal” followed by Kaka’s “Daru Peeke” is Aces in my books.
Artists covered range from the following:
Imran Khan, Diljit, Sarbjit Cheema, Malkit, JK, Heera, Dark MC, Kaka, Miss Pooja, House of Pain, Drake, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Jay-Z and some Bollywood tunes I’m not that aware of for obvious reasons. (Trust me this list is the tip of the iceberg.)
Download here.
My favourite part (about 11 minutes in) is this Preet Mani track “Akh Mastani.” The dude is from the Toronto area, and I really could use some more info on him as well.
DJ KSR has been on the scene for 7 years, and he will be releasing his first official album this summer. For more info on him, check out his facebook page.
P.S. You’re welcome.
Top 5 Free Downloads of 2009
I’m going to try my best and bang out some year end posts today.
First off, I think we should deal with the best downloads the UK Bhangra world had to offer this year.
To qualify as best download, they had to be freely given by the artists themselves.
It’s funny how some albums have come out, and I hear people say “Man, that album is not even worth the download.” Well the past few years, artists have made a concerted effort to actually give away really good free stuff. These freebies I believe, could actually fetch a few pence had they been solely put on the market, so enjoy. Of course, all of the downloads here at bhangraw.com are legit, and I would say that, even the one’s that didn’t make the top 5 are worth the download. (So head on over to the downloads section.)
Without further ado; the top 5 downloads of 2009.
Number 5 – DJ Vix “Ah Chak Bottal”
DJ Vix has a knack for making some killer mixes. He took his original, got rid of almost any resemblance of Indian instruments, and turned up the BPM’s to create a dance track fit for a rave.
Number 4 – En Karma “En Karma Diyan Boliyan”
The boys from Vancouver did not disappoint in their second free download. They got together and produced a track that I found myself singing along to on most occasions. Memorise the lyrics and surprise your Auntys and Uncles at your next fam jam why don’t ya?
Number 3 – Gurteshwar Grewal “Dil Dangdi”
This track came out of nowhere, and once again it’s a Canadian product. The vocals and the production worked really well together, and once again I found myself listening to this on repeat.
Number 2 – Twin Beats “Manak Drops the Pressure”
This track surprised me the most. I never thought I would hear a house track mixed with a Manak track – and be done so well. If you haven’t heard it yet, you’re wasting time reading this line. Get to it!
Number 1 – Swami “Sugarless”
By far one of the biggest tracks of the year, period. No one – not even the band – knew that this track would take on a life of it’s own the world over. So much so, Swami were prompted to make a video. Of all the tracks I have given away, this one yields the most “thank you for the song…..and introducing me to Swami.” You’re welcome bhangraw fam.
Free Bikram Keith vs DJ Vix – Jay Sean “Down (The Desi Remix)” Download
As I hope you all know, our boy from West London has done big things worldwide. In America, he holds the number one song on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Bikram Keith and DJ Vix have collaborated and made a desi remix of the track “Down,” which Bikram Keith has put up on his website.

Free DJ Vix “Ah Chak Bottal” Download
Fellow East Londoner DJ Vix drops a “reVix” of “Ah Chak Bottal” and is giving it away for free.
Download the track, load on to your mp3 player of choice, and vibe with it on your way to work knowing this sh*t is legit.
Hit up Vix’ MySpace to show some appreciation.
DJ Vix “Ah Chak Bottal Daru Di” Video
With the release of the DJ Vix “Vixtape” hopefully imminent, here is the first video.
From hearing the promos, I thought this would be a phat tune, but I think it carries on a little too long,
Vixtape is set to release now on August 22.

Here is two DJ Vix downloads courtesy of the DJ Vix Myspace page
They’re from his previous album “Identical 2 None”
I’m not down with the Reggaeton vibe, the original “Gabru” was one of my favourite productions of his. But “Pranda” on the other hand, is my type of raving chune.
His new album “Vixtape” featuring new productions and old remixes should be out later this month.
I hope they bring some sort of sunshine to your day wherever you are. I’m off to soggy ol’ Brampton
DJ Vix “Vixtape” Ad
Here’s the “TV Trailer” for the DJ Vix “Vixtape” coming out hopefully very soon. It highlights the lead single and video featuring Shin of DCS titled “Ah Chak Bottal Daru Di.”
I’m feeling the tune a lot.
However, what I am not feeling is the shoddy excuse they call marketing at a major record label – MovieBox. There was a point during the early 2000′s that this label had it’s act together with a solid line of releases. Now all we ever seem to get is a solid line of delayed projects, and next to no marketing for their talent. “Vixtape” was supposed to be released this past January.
Get your act together boys! Going independent isn’t as hard as it used to be.
