DJ Rekha, New York’s Bhangra DJ
For the last ten (10!) years Rekha Malhotra a.k.a. DJ Rekha has been spinning the wheels of steel in New York clubs, introducing and spreading the Bhangra vibe.
Last fall, after nine years of Djing, DJ Rekha has moved on to the next step of her career, releasing her debut CD “Basement Bhangra.” This isn’t just any CD, it’s got some weight behind it. Koch Records is the label behind the album.
Even the title track, which was co-produced by Wyclef Jean of the Fugees features vocals by fellow NY native Bikram Singh, and a verse from Wyclef.
The rest of the album is a compilation of tracks, which takes listeners on a musical journey with some of the biggest songs recorded over the past, with contributions from the likes of Zeus, PMC, and Bally Sagoo.
To purchase or sample the album, check out Amazon.com
If you’re in the NY area and need your Bhangra fix, hit up S.O.B.’s on the first Thursday of every month.
