Old School Sunday – PBN “Vekh Jandi Dolhi”
This week’s Old School Sunday is one of my favourite Bhangarage tracks. I also feel as if it is a continuation of the Bally Jagpal/Amar Arshi/Shazia Manzoor track I posted two weeks ago.
Released on Panjabi By Nature’s debut album “Second 2 None,” I feel it was the only song worth listening to. However, since Second 2 None, PBN has redeemed himself with some quality tracks.
Featuring the vocals of Amar Arshi, and Singh MC – I’ll give this guy some credit, because he wasn’t half bad either – the album was released during the year 2000.
Are we taking for granted that PBN has been around for almost 10 years?
Old School Sunday – Bally Jagpal “Viah Karvake Ve”
I remember exactly were I first heard this song. It was 1999, and we were at a house party in Brampton (of all places.) Wait, let me rephrase that, it was outside the party. The music wasn’t bumping inside the house, as it was more of a dinner party for like a 100 people.
So us youngster’s were chilling outside, you know, up to our usual no good. When one of the elder youngsters who had a Jeep at the time pulled up to the front of the house with this song blaring. We quickly went up to him, and made him replay it.
I remember the excitement he showed while starting the song again. The song started as it does with a chilled out beat, Jimmy all along saying “wait for it…wait for it…”
“Wait for what?”
“The dhol to kick in”
Bally Jagpal feat. Amar Arshi/Shazia Manzoor “Viah Karvake Ve”
Sure enough, as Amar Arshi enters the song at the 1:03 mark, the dhol started and did it. That’s all it took. I was entranced. I got the album the following day, and continued to rinse what we now know as one of the biggest selling albums in UK Bhangra, “Dark and Dangerous.”
The song is originally an Amarjot and Chamkila track, and it was redone by one of the hottest combos back then consisting of Amar Arshi and Shazia Manzoor. (Thanks for the correction Nimrit.)Sudesh Kumari – who I still rate higher than Miss Pooja (sorry fellas.)
The entire album – comprised of six tracks – is very impressive, as it contained an array of beats and samples. This was also the first time we heard “Aaja Sohneya” by Shazia Manzoor, before we got “Simran’s Mix” on “Untruly Yours.”
If you don’t have this album in your collection. I suggest you get it, because you’re missing out badly.

As a special bonus, I came across the lyrics to the track online.

AMX “Broken Silence” Promos (Kaka Bhaniawala “Kisi Horh Banereh”)
Two years, some added tracks, and an album name change later, and I think we’re closing in on finally seeing AMX’ now titled “Broken Silence” album seeing the light of day.
AMX has publicly stated, that he took time off from releasing the album originally in ’07 to complete his degree, and being dissatisfied with the previous final product. For our patience, he has upped the number of tracks to 24, and has made us painstakingly anticipate the release of this instant classic:
Kaka Bhaniawala – Kisi Horh Banereh
I have not been able to stop listening to this, and it’s a PROMO! Initially, I was at a loss for words (in a good way.) This track sounds like a classic Dre and Mike Elizondo beat. The late Kaka Bhaniawala’s vocals sound raw, but at the same time resonate class tuneage. Seriously, this is a light up a “J” (for medicinal purposes*) music.
If you can read the artist listing on the album cover, there is a HUGE lineup;
Lehmber, Kaka, Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda, Amar Arshi, Surjit Bindrakhia, Angrej Ali, Pappi Gill, K.S. Bhamrah, Labh Janjua, Billa Bakshi, Ranjit Mani and more! Check out a few more promos from the album:
Lehmber Hussainpuri – Folk Kalian (Akhada)
Labh Janjua – Hik Lokan Di Sahru
Amar Arshi – Jatt Marh Da Phireh Lalkareh
Kaka Bhaniawala – Soneh Di Taweet Warga
Billa Bakshi – Naag
Mohanvir Mahli – Dil Ishq De Rang Vich (Boliyan)
I still don’t have the concrete release date, but you can be sure I will keep y’alls up to date. You can also hit up AMX at amx-productions.co.uk.

Old School Sunday – Kam Dhillon “Aaja Ni Aaja”
This weeks Old School Sunday takes you back exactly seven years with this gem of a song.
With production handled by Kam Dhillon, along with the vocals of Amar Arshi, “Aaja Ni Aaja” was a track that rapidly gained popularity all over the world – a rarity for a debut song – and I guess, we can thank the internet for that.
Kam’s lone debut album, “Dance With Me (Aaja Ni Aaja)” featured eight tracks, of which most featured a heavy dose of popular samples of that time. The video was rather basic as well, but with this song, did it matter?
Where is Kam? If you know his whereabouts, yell “Aaja Ni Aaja” at him to let him know that the dance floor could use some more of his production.
Old School Sunday – Dr Zeus “Gwandian Da Dhol”
I cannot believe it took me this long to put up a Dr. Zeus video.
Before Dr. Zeus released one of the all time greatest albums “Unda Da Influence,” the original 2001 release of “Gwandian Da Dhol” was one of my favourite Zeus songs.
Featured on his solo debut album “High Life,” most of the album was largely garage and hip hop sample based. Gwandian Da Dhol, sung by Amar Arshi was the only track that had a traditional feel, and it sure was a precursor of things to come.
