From the 1993 album “Bomb The Tumbi”, Balwinder Safri did just that.
Get a load of the Tumbi in The Boys Boliyan.
You can buy Bomb The Tumbi from iTunes.
I don’t really have to make any introductions for this track, as it was one of the biggest songs of my generation.
The album also featured the hits “Nach Ke Dikha”, “Tappe”, “Sas Kutni”, and “Rabbaa Ki Kariye”.
And what Heera related post can I write, without saying Deepak Khazanchi is a Don.
Here’s a rare video back from 2003. It features Jas Virdees track “Rifle”, from his album “It Has Begun.”
Featuring the vocals of Manak-E, and a heavy Reggae b-line, this was one of a couple Jas Virdee tracks I bumped.
You may also know, Jas Virdee formed one third of Big Poppa Cartel, which also featured Dark MC, and Ricky Singh.
From 2001, Untruly Yours may have featured only 4 tracks, and probably ticked a few people off with having to pay £7 for the album back then (if you really purchased it.) But I still loved the tracks.
Ranjha was nice, and Aja Sohneya (remix) was, well you know what it was, but this Ranjit Mani, UK Garage infused track still was the one that got the highest amount of replays from me.
Long before Imran Khan was crooning about it, Ranjit Mani and Bally Jagpal had their own OG UK Bhangra version of the track “Bewafa.”
Dating back to 1997, this track was featured on “Live & Direct” (as well as “Dark & Direct”).
The album featured a few other great songs like “Nakhre Bin Soni Temi”, and “Putt Sardara De”. But for me, any song that uses that James Brown guitar riff is a winner.
What? Yeah I know it has been a long time since I posted, and an even longer time since I posted an Old School Sunday track. My apologies.
I woke up this morning feeling good. Invigorated (must be the supposed one hour extra sleep I got from daylight savings ending – ok, most likely not). Or Fernando’s great display against Chelski today. I digress.
From 1988, here is a treat from the Awaaz Group. Hardcore Bhangra fans may know of this group. But man I surely passed this song over, until my sister opened my eyes to it.
Taken from the album “Jee Kar Da”, the song was written by Apna Sangeet’s K.S. Bhamrah.
Enjoy.
P.S. To the peeps that continued visiting and supporting the site, looking for new material and have been disappointed, I sincerely apologise. I’ll make it up to y’all.
Going back to 1996, this track sung by Madan Maddi was featured on Big Boom. It was also this album, that featured “Do Jugtan” by Jazzy B.
I want to say that’s a Lil Suzy sample, but I could be off with that one.
I definitely have to post up more songs by Amit and Sanj of Executives.
During the eighties and nineties, these guys had one of the best series (10 in all) of remix tapes available on the UK Bhangra market.
To kick off how good they were, here is their take on Premi’s “Tina o Tina” from Extra Hot Volume 5.
Notice the Snap! “The Power” sample? Kind of hard not to, but these guys were the first to do it. They also did a few Hindi remixes as well as an Argentina football song remix (I’ll excuse them for that.)
Taio Cruz is a UK based artist who hooked up with Nitin Sawhney on his 2003 album, “Human.”
Rishi Rich later did a remix for the song, which is what you see in this weeks dose of Old School Sunday.
Every time I listen to this song, I lose myself in the serene sound.
